Fig is a woodworking project rooted in thoughtful design, skilful craftsmanship and an affinity with timber, shaped by many years in the trade. We make bespoke furniture and joinery from exceptional reclaimed timber, and sell that same timber to others for use in their own projects.

Meet the founder
David Williams, Founder and Maker
David trained through a traditional cabinetmaking apprenticeship at the renowned Edward Barnsley Workshop, an institution firmly rooted in the British Arts and Crafts movement. He went on to work for many years as a senior cabinetmaker at the luxury furniture maker Silverlining, before moving on to managing the workshop at H. Miller Bros in Liverpool.
Across these roles, David has made and managed furniture and interior projects for settings ranging from private homes to superyachts, both locally and internationally. This breadth of experience has shaped a clear understanding of how well-made furniture should function, feel and endure, as well as a belief that the best work grows from relationships built on trust, careful listening, good humour and mutual respect.

Reclaimed first
The finest furniture timbers come from slow-growing trees, and the old-growth forests they stand in are some of the richest wildlife habitats we have. Generations of makers before us left behind plenty of beautiful, well-seasoned timber that’s still in circulation today. Wherever we can, we work with that wood and give it a second life, so the forests can stay standing.
